Match Report

Caloundra United suffered a 6-2 defeat to Currimundi Cobias in a league fixture played on a wet and challenging evening at Bli Bli FC. Short on numbers and dealing with injuries before kick-off, the squad showed genuine resilience throughout, competing hard across both halves and demonstrating the kind of collective spirit that will serve them well in the weeks ahead.

Cobias Find a Rhythm; United Refuse to Wilt

The Damage Done in a Tough First Half

The Cobias struck early through a 16th-minute opener, and despite Aaron pulling one back at the 26-minute mark — assisted by a perfectly weighted Bruno Fernandes inspired ball in behind from Nigel — the opposition found a rhythm that proved difficult to disrupt. Goals at the 24th, 30th, 38th, and 43rd minutes gave Currimundi a commanding 5-1 lead at the break.

Second-Half Pride; A Brave Stand-In Keeper

Jared gave United a second goal early in the second half but a late Cobias goal in the 77th minute sealed the scoreline. Special mention must go to Brando, who showed exceptional courage — going down with what appeared to be a significant groin injury, he stepped into goal and produced a remarkable triple save. Brave performance. Both Brando and Lukey sustained injuries during the match, and the club is awaiting further updates on their conditions.

Standout Performers

  • AndyMan of the Match. Led from midfield, setting the standard for effort and quality throughout.
  • Jack and Jezz — Massive at the back, working tirelessly to limit the damage on a difficult surface.
  • Brando — Triple save off the line after stepping into goal injured. Courage personified.
  • Aaron and Jared — On the scoresheet, both creating and finishing on a night where chances were at a premium.
  • Dan and Benny — Welcome returns to the squad.

Injury & Availability Update

Brando and Lukey both picked up injuries during the match and are awaiting assessment. The squad will continue to manage these alongside the existing list — patience over panic remains the message.

Looking Ahead: Stay in Top Four, Stay the Course

The scoreline does not reflect the effort or the quality this group is capable of. United had their chances and played some good football across patches of the game — the foundation is there. Back-to-back fixtures against the league’s best both coming as defeats we learn from — Caloundra now understand the benchmark well and what the view is like from the top. It’s nice and we’re staying.

With a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, the focus now must be on resetting, recovering key players, and ensuring the squad secures a top-four finish and a subsequent place in finals football. The strength of this group is not in doubt — the next few weeks will show it. Buderim Power at home on the 22nd.
